Solar heating
Solar heating systems use the natural and renewable energy from the sun to heat water. The heated water can subsequently be used as hot water in the kitchen and bathroom or for room heating.
A solar heating system consists of one or more solar panels connected to the hot-water tank in the house. The solar panel contains water (with antifreeze fluid) which is heated by the sun and then pumped to the hot-water tank. Here the water heats up the water in the tank and then flows back to the solar panel.
Solar panels are normally fitted on the roof but can also be built into the facade of the building.
A solar energy system is a relatively expensive investment, although it is cheap to run compared with fossil energy sources.
